On 15 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, presided over the award ceremony for the Youth Multimedia Arts Competition under the theme “Envisioning a World Free from Nuclear Weapons in Commemoration of the 30th Anniversary of the Signing of the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (Bangkok Treaty).”

The activity was organised with the cooperation of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) to provide a platform for youth in the region to express their perspectives on a world free from nuclear weapons, as well as to enhance the role of youth in disarmament, peace, and regional cooperation processes, in celebration of the 30th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on the Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ), also known as the Bangkok Treaty. The competition attracted strong interest from over 100 youth participants across the region. A total of 17 winning artworks were exhibited at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and will also be showcased during the NPT Review Conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York in 2026.

Mr. Adedeji Ebo, Director and Deputy to the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, delivered a video message. Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, and H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, also attended the event and delivered remarks. The ceremony was witnessed by more than 90 participants, including members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from government agencies, students, and pupils. The grand prize winners in each category will be offered an opportunity to travel to Hiroshima, Japan, to participate in the Youth Leader Fund (YLF) programme.

The Bangkok Treaty, signed in 1995, reflects the shared commitment of ASEAN Member States to ensure that Southeast Asia remains free of nuclear weapons, thereby contributing to the promotion of regional and international peace, stability, and security. Thailand serves as the Depositary State of the Bangkok Treaty.
