Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand paid a courtesy call on Minister of Foreign Affairs on the occasion of her assumption of duty

On 8 June 2020, at 14.30 hrs. H.E. Mrs. Samantha K. Jayasuriya, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand on the occasion of her assumption of duty. Both sides expressed satisfaction on the state of bilateral ties which have grown from strength to strength over the past six decades. They also expressed their appreciation in facilitating the repatriation flights for their nationals to return to their countries during the COVID-19 outbreak.  
 
Foreign Minister Don expressed his appreciation to the Sri Lankan Ambassador and the Government of Sri Lanka for facilitating the repatriation flight in May 2020 for the 105 Thai nationals stranded in Sri Lanka due to the outbreak of the COVID-19. Ambassador Samantha also appreciated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the support extended to Embassy of Sri Lanka for the repatriation of Sri Lankan nationals from Thailand on 17 May 2020.  
 
Both sides also discussed ways to enhance cooperation in bilateral and multilateral areas such as the resumption of the Thailand - Sri Lanka Bilateral Political Consultations and cooperation within the BIMSTEC framework.  The Thai side also took note of the Government of Sri Lanka’s wish to obtain ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue partner status.
