The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand highlighted Thailand's role in promoting the participation of women and gender equality, both locally and internationally, under the vision of "unlocking women's potential" during the High-level meeting on the 25th Anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women.

On 1 October 2020, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, delivered Thailand’s statement, via pre-recorded video, at the High-level meeting on the 25th anniversary of the 4th World Conference on Women, held during the 75th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs joined the international community in commemorating the 25th Anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and shared Thailand’s vision and progress based on the 12 key areas. He underlined the importance of “unlocking women’s potential” and creating opportunities for women in various areas, namely through promoting access to financial services and in supporting their role in driving the economy and society.

Thailand also joined in celebrating the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security and the 10th Anniversary of the United Nations Rules for the Treatment of Women Prisoners and Non-Custodial Measures for Women Offenders (Bangkok Rules) this year. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed the importance of increasing the unique role of women peacekeepers as well as Thailand’s work on protecting the rights of female inmates in accordance with the Bangkok Rules. This constituted another reflection of Thailand’s efforts to leave no one behind.

Finally, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs reiterated the importance of multilateralism as the most effective tool to address global issues and to move forward in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
