              On 9 April 2013, The U.S. Senate adopted by consensus Resolution S.RES.77, “A Resolution expressing the sense of Congress relating to the commemoration of the 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Kingdom of Thailand”. The gist of the Resolution commemorate the 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the United States and the Kingdom of Thailand, commemorate the 85th Birthday of His Majesty the King of Thailand (on 5 December 2012), congratulate the Kingdom of Thailand and her people for the continued prosperity as well as the affirmation of the value of democracy.  Finally, the Resolution looks forward to the continuation of the friendship between the Peoples of Thailand and the United States.

             The drafting process of this resolution is a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and friends of Thailand in the United States Senate who admire the leadership and vision of His Majesty the King.  This year marks the 180th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the United States, which began with the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Commerce on 20 March 1933 during the administration of President Andrew Jackson and the reign of His Majesty King Rama III.  From this early beginning came the close friendship and cooperation between the two countries which have prospered through to this day.
