On 28 August 2013, Mr. Medha Promthep, Thai Ambassador to Argentina, together with Dr. Benjamín Pérez Ruiz , Dean of the Faculty of Legal Sciences of the Catholic University of Salta, presided over the inauguration of “Thailand Corner” at the University’s Library.
The Ambassador gave an opening remark emphasizing the objective of the project which is to promote the people-to-people relations between Thailand and Argentina. He also wished that the Corner which was now provided with more than 100 books and other media about Thailand would become another convenient source of information for students, academic personals, and general public in Salta Province, as well as would promote the better knowledge and understanding about Thailand and bring the two peoples even closer. The ceremony was followed by the reception well attended by approximately 90 guests comprising of representatives from local government, business sector, academic society and a Thai student under the AFS exchange program staying in Salta together with the host family.
The Royal Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires has initiated the “Thailand Corner” since 2011. The first project was carried out at the National University of La Plata and followed by the second Thailand Corner at the Catholic University of Córdoba. The Thailand Corner at the Catholic University of Salta is the third and the latest Thailand Corner in Argentina.
