During 27 September - 6 October 2013, the Asian Volleyball Confederation, in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council and the United Arab Emirates Volleyball Association, hosted the 17th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championships in Dubai. This year, competitors from 21 countries competed for the winning title.
On 28 September 2013, H.E. Warawudh Chuwiruch, Ambassador of Thailand to the United Arab Emirates, Mr. Fabio Chinda, Deputy Consul-General, Acting Consul-General of Thailand to Dubai and the Northern Emirates, officers and staff from the Royal Thai Embassy and Consulate-General attended the opening ceremony of the 17th Asian Senior Men's Volleyball Championships, which was held at Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Sports Complex. Additionally, on 29 September 2013, the Consulate-General hosted lunch in honour of the team and wished them luck for the tournament.
The end of the 8 days competition saw Iran defended their championship title against the Republic of Korea, while Thailand finished at the 6th position. Throughout the competition, the Thai volleyball fans and cheering squad attended all the matches to show their support for the team.
