During 8 September - 6 October 2013, the Royal Thai Consulate-General, Dubai, organized a month-long study programme in Dubai with the aim to promote education and culture in a moderate Muslim society for Thai Muslim students from the Southern Provinces of Thailand. The 4 Thai Muslim students from the Prince of Songkla University, Pattani Campus, Mr. Vuttichai Raksa, Mr. Surat Suddam, Mr. Rochead Budiah and Mr. Aisama-ae Mahsah, participated in the short study programme, which was conducted at the Language and Culture Center, University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD), where the course included a 60 hours Arabic language classes and numerous visits to important cultural sites in Dubai.
A part from their daily curriculum, the Consulate-General also organized cultural activities and tours for the students such as a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and the Islamic Boy’s Institute in Al Ain. While the visit to the Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi allowed the students to witness the significant landmark of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the visit to Al Ain to meet the Thai students who have received the scholarships from the Government of the UAE to study their secondary schooling in the country, gave students from both programmes the opportunity to exchange views on educational system between Thailand and UAE..
The month-long study programme to promote education and culture in a moderate Muslim society for Thai Muslim students in Dubai was organized for the first time by the Consulate-General with the objective to promote education and cultural ties between Thailand and the UAE. Moreover, the programme also aimed at giving the Thai Muslim students from the Southern Provinces of Thailand the opportunity to experience the way of life in a multicultural and moderate Muslim society.
