On 4 December 2013, the Royal Thai Embassy in Mexico hosted a reception to celebrate the auspicious occasion of the 86th birthday anniversary of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand. The reception was held at the Hotel Presidente InterContinental in Mexico City and was attended by over 300 guests, including ambassadors and members of diplomatic corps, representatives of Mexican Foreign Ministry, deputies, senators, leading businesspersons, academics, media, Friends of Thailand and the Thai community in Mexico.
In his remarks, Mr. Chirachai Punkrasin, Ambassador of Thailand to Mexico, highlighted many important developments in Thai-Mexican relations in the past year, encompassing the political, economic, cultural and people-to-people dimensions. The Ambassador reaffirmed the determination of the Royal Thai Embassy to continue to foster ties and cooperation between Thailand and Mexico, whether they be in trade expansion with particular emphasis in the automotive and electronic industries or cultural exchanges through the Embassy’s Thai Studies Program, Muay Thai and Thai Cuisine Promotion.
The event was also a great opportunity to showcase Thai arts and culture to the Mexican public, not only through Thai cuisine but also fruit and vegetable carving and Thai traditional dance. The dances were graciously performed by Mexican students and the Thai Community in Mexico, embodying the strong friendship between the peoples of the two nations.
