On 6 January 2014, H.E. Mr. Peerasak Chantavarin, Ambassador of Thailand to Egypt, together with officials of the Royal Thai Embassy, paid a visit to the International Dormitory of Al-Azhar University where they were welcomed by Mr. Sayyed Gahlan, Director of the Dormitory.

The Director briefed the Embassy's delegation on living conditions of Thai students who are residing in the dormitory as well facilities and support provided to the students in various aspects, including their study, recreational activities, and security.

On this occasion, the Ambassador had taken a tour of the dormitory for male students, including its library, exercise room, television room, and canteen as well as the visit to some Thai students' rooms in the dormitory.

According to Mr. Sayyed, 410 Thai students are currently staying in the dormitory. They expressed their satisfaction for the facilities and services provided by the dormitory.
