On December 17, 2013, H.E. Dr. Itti Ditbanjong, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Russian Federation hosted dinner, at the Residence, in honour of Mr. Rungsan Sriworasat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance of Thailand. Mr. Sriworasat was Head of Thai Delegation attending the Forth Round of the World Bank’s International Development Association of the 17th Replenishment Meeting or IDA17 held in Moscow from 16 - 17 December 2013.
The Chiefs of the economic missions of Team Thailand in Moscow (the Office of the Commercial Affairs, the Tourism Authority of Thailand and Thai Airways International) have also been invited at the dinner.
On this occasion, H.E. the Ambassador of Thailand and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance shared information and exchanged views on issues to further promote Thai - Russian economic relations. This includes the possibility to increase the numbers of the Bangkok - Moscow direct flight operated by Thai Airways International to 7 days a week. (Currently, the Thai Airways International has rescheduled the said flight operation from 5 days a week to 6 days a week within a period of 25 December 2013 to 31 March 2014.)
Due to the fact that Thailand is recognized as one of the most popular tourist destinations among Russians, the said suggestion will help boost the potential of Thailand’s tourism business in Russia to be even stronger. The numbers of Russian tourists traveling to Thailand are expected to reach 1.6 million by the end of 2013, whereas each of them is estimated to spend approximately 4,500 baht a day, which in turn, could generate to Thailand’s national revenues of at least 80 billion baht a year.
