On 8 January 2014, 21 fifth grade students from Benjamin Stoddert Elementary School led by their teacher, Mr. Steve Dingledine, and Ms. Ellen Walker, Embassy Adoption Program Staff, visited the Royal Thai Embassy. They were greeted by Ambassador VijavatIsarabhakdi.
During the visit, the students had an opportunity to expand their knowledge about Thailand through a number of activities. These included a questions & answers session about Thailand, during which the students were asked questions based on what they learned earlier from the visit to their school by the Embassy staff and the fact sheet about Thailand called “Thailand at a Glance” given to them on 17 December 2013. The students also explored Thai food and delicacies by watching and participating in a demonstration on how to make famous Thai papaya salad or “Som Tum”, and a Thai dessert made from mung beans called “LukChup.” This was followed by lunch where they enjoyed their self-made salad and desserts, along with Thai fried chicken rice from the Thai Residence.
The visit from Benjamin Stoddert Elementary School is the second activity which the Royal Thai Embassy has organized under the “Embassy Adoption Program,” which is jointly held by the District of Columbia Public Schools and Washington Performing Arts Society (WPAS).
