His Excellency Dr. Surapong Tovichakchaikul, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, today issued the following statement:

The Royal Thai Government wishes to condemn in the strongest terms the recent acts of violence in Trat Province on 22 February 2014 and at the Ratchaprasong area in Bangkok on 23 February 2014, which resulted in loss of lives and injuries of innocent civilians,
including children.

The Royal Thai Government also condemns those who perpetrated such senseless and brutal violence, which can only serve to further escalate the current political situation.

The Royal Thai Government expresses its deepest condolences to families and relatives of those who lost their lives as well as those who have been injured. The Government has ordered a full investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

The Royal Thai Government takes note of the recent statement by the United Nation Secretary General condemning the recent armed attacks and also his offer to assist in any way he can with regard to the current political situation.
