On 6 April 2014, H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden, and his wife, Viyada, along with officials from the Royal Thai Embassy attended the Songkran Festival, organized by the Salathai Cultural Association at Östasiatiska Museet, Stockholm.  

On this occasion, H.E. Ambassador Somchai presided over the opening ceremony of the Sonkran Festival.  In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Somchai praised the Salathai Cultural Association and Thai community in Sweden for conserving and promoting Thai culture and traditions in Sweden and wished them a Happy Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year’s Day.

 The Festival included various activities such as pouring water over hands of the revered elders and asking for blessing, Thai cultural and musical performances, Muay Thai demonstration and Thai costume trial which have attracted great interest from the participants
