H.E. Mr. Somchai Charanasomboon, Ambassador of Thailand to Sweden and staff members of the Royal Thai Embassy went to Eslov, a town in the southern part of Sweden (566 kilometers from Stockholm) on 19 - 20 April 2014 to provide a mobile consular service at Sanghabaramee Temple. There were a large number of Thais coming for the services and they expressed their wishes that another mobile consular service be provided in the area next year.
On 20 April 2014, H.E. Ambassador Somchai and his wife, Viyada, attended the ceremony of offering robes to Buddhist monks at Sanghabaramee Temple. H.E. Ambassador Somchai also donated some money, on behalf of the Royal Thai Embassy, to the abbot of the Temple.
Later on the same day, H.E. Ambassador Somchai and his wife, attended the Songkran Festival at Sanghabaramee Temple. H.E. Ambassador Somchai presided over an opening ceremony of the Festival. In his opening remarks, H.E. Ambassador Somchai praised the Sanghabaramee Temple and the Thai community in Sweden for conserving and promoting Thai culture and traditions in Sweden and wished them a Happy Songkran, the traditional Thai New Year’s Day. The Festival, which featured delicious Thai food, Thai cultural performances as well as the pouring of water over hands of the revered elders and asking for blessing, received overwhelming response from both Thai and Swedish participants. There were approximately 200 attendances in total.
