Project to promote Thai studies in Argentina and Uruguay

The Royal Thai Embassy in Buenos Aires invited Dr. Jakarin Srimoon, Dean of International College and Director of SEA – LAC Trade Center, University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce, to visit Argentina and Uruguay during 21 April to 10 May 2014 under the embassy’s academic project to promote Thai studies in those countries. During the visit, Dr. Srimoon conducted several academic seminars about Thailand and opportunities to do business in Thailand at leading universities in Argentina and Uruguay, as well as established networks with academic institutes and private sector of the two countries.
Dr. Srimoon gave presentation under the topic “Thailand: Kingdom of Opportunites” at six leading universities and academic institute in Argentina and Uruguay namely University of Torcuato Di Tella, Catholic University of Uruguay, International Business School of UCES, National University of La Plata, Catholic University of Cordoba, and the Argentine Institute of Foreign Service (ISEN). The seminars were well attended by approximately 250 participants including students, professors, academicians, and general public. Furthermore, Dr. Srimoon was also a panelist together with Ambassador Medha Promthep, Thai Ambassador to Argentina, and Ambassador Felipe Frydman, former Argentine Ambassador to Thailand, at the seminar “Doing Business with Thailand” organized by the Argentine Chamber of Commerce. The seminar was participated by over than 150 business personnel and representatives from private sector.
During the visit, Dr. Srimoon also established networks with academic institutes and private organizations of Argentina by signing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Argentine Chamber of Commerce for Asia and the Pacific to promote interaction and exchange of information with an aim to enhance cooperation for trade and investment between Thailand and Argentina. Dr. Srimoon also signed the MoU with Catholic University of Cordoba and University of 21st Century with an intention to promote academic and cultural cooperation which includes an exchange of students, lecturers, and researchers between the universities.
Dr. Srimoon’s visit to Argentina and Uruguay is one of the Royal Thai Embassy’s proactive projects to promote the better understanding of Thailand through people-to-people channel with an aim to create friends of Thailand in Latin America.
