On 23 July 2015, H.E. Mr. PitchayaphantCharnbhumidol, Ambassador of Thailand to Brazil together with several representatives from Thai authorities, namely Mr. VositaVorasaph, Deputy Director-General of Department of Consular Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pol. Maj. Gen. SuppakitSrichannon, Deputy Commissioner of Narcotics Suppression Bureau, Mr. ThatreeChauvachata, Director of Division of Protection of Thai Nationals Abroad, Mr. Tada Choomchaiyo, Acting Expert on Investigation and Suppression and Mr. DechaWichaidit, Chief of Investigation and Suppression Sub-division 1 of the Customs Department and MsKitwipaSuwanrat, Senior Plan and Policy Analyst of the Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB)had meetings with Dr. Antonio Wagner Goncalves Castilho, Head of Federal Police at the International Airport of Sao Paulo and Mr. Edison Jorge Takeshi Kaneko, Chief Inspector of Brazilian Customs Office at the International Airport of Sao Pauloto discuss and exchanges views on problems of drugs trafficking operated by foreigners, particularly Thais who have been lured into this operation, as well as to find ways and means to prevent it.
The meeting was also useful for the related authorities to share views, best practices, and express the common concerns on expanding trans-regional drugs trafficking between Latin America and the Southeast Asia region as well as pave waythe for closer cooperation.
During their visit to Sao Paulo, the Thai delegation also had meetings with representatives from Federal Public Defender and the Institute of Land, Work, and Citizenship (ITTC) in Sao Paulo on the matters related to Thais imprisoned in Brazil as well as to visit Thai inmates in Sao Paulo.
