Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs attends Bangladesh’s 55th Anniversary of Independence and National Day reception

On 26 March 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Secretary to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered remarks as the Chief Guest at the reception commemorating the 55th Anniversary of Independence and National Day of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok. He also presented a congratulatory flower vase on behalf of the Foreign Minister to H.E. Mr. Faiyaz Murshid Kazi, Ambassador of Bangladesh to Thailand.
 
The Secretary to the Foreign Minister congratulated Bangladesh on the successful elections and referendum on the July National Charter, held in Bangladesh in February this year. He also underscored the long-standing Thailand - Bangladesh relations of over 54 years, which cover a wide range of areas, including trade, investment, and people-to-people ties, and have continued to grow from strength to strength alongside Bangladesh’s national development.
 
The Secretary to the Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s position and the hope that the tense situation in the Middle East, which affects global energy and maritime security, will de-escalate soonest through diplomatic means. He also emphasized the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation to address these emerging challenges, including the negotiations on the Thailand–Bangladesh Free Trade Agreement (FTA), as well as efforts to strengthen maritime connectivity between the two countries through cooperation under the BIMSTEC framework and the inauguration of a direct shipment between Ranong Port and Chittagong Port.
