On 22 June 2026, H.E. Ms. Arjaree Sriratanaban, Ambassador of Thailand to Australia, met with the Global Voices Scholarship Program Young Leaders who will be participating in the 2026 World Bank Group–International Monetary Fund (IMF) Annual Meetings to be hosted by Thailand from 12–18 October 2026 in Bangkok.
During the meeting, the Ambassador gave an overview of Thailand’s economic development, the country’s foreign policy and role in the region and on the international stage, as well as the importance of Thailand–Australia relations, particularly in the areas of trade, investment, people-to-people connection, and tourism. The Ambassador also highlighted key global issues of Thailand’s interest including food security, energy security and net-zero emissions, sustainable development, and building economic resilience.
The Ambassador gave a brief introduction about the 2026 World Bank Group–IMF Annual Meetings, which mark the second time Thailand had the honour to host – the first time being in 1991. Held under the theme “Thailand’s New Horizons: Empowering People, Building Resilience”, the Meetings are expected to welcome more than 15,000 participants from 191 countries, including ministers, policymakers, representatives from the financial and business sectors, academics, and civil society. The event will provide an important opportunity to showcase Thailand’s potentials and strengthen its role in the global economic sphere.
The young delegates also exchanged views with the Ambassador on various issues, including agriculture and food security, energy security, Thailand’s development model and approaches to addressing global issues, and Thailand-Pacific Islands countries cooperation. As part of the program, the delegates will develop a policy paper with formal recommendations for domestic policy implementation, which the delegation will also share with the Embassy
