On 19 June 2025, Ms. Usana Berananda, Permanent Representative of Thailand to the United Nations in Geneva, joined the Thai Delegation in the oral presentation of the 8th periodic report under the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) during the 91st Session of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women in Geneva.
The Delegation was led by Ms. Ramrung Worawat, Director-General of the Department of Women's Affairs and Family Development, Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, and is composed of representatives from relevant agencies: Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre, Royal Thai Police, Office of the Attorney General, Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Labour and National Institute of Development Administration.
The Thai Delegation discussed progress and challenges concerning the promotion and protection of women’s rights and gender equality in Thailand with the CEDAW Committee, including legislative frameworks, women’s role and representation in politics, public and private sectors, trafficking in persons, protection of women human rights defenders, and the right to education, right to health and labour rights of women and girls. The Thai Delegation and CEDAW Committee also exchanged views on emerging issues and new challenges affecting women’s rights such as technology-facilitated gender-based violence, artificial intelligence and climate change. The dialogue with the CEDAW Committee provided useful feedbacks and information for Thailand to further protect and promote the rights of all groups of women and girls, including ethnic groups, migrants, stateless women and girls, as well as women with disabilities.
The CEDAW Committee will publish its Concluding Observations on Thailand's 8th Periodic Report by July 2025.
