On 20 August 2025, Mrs. Hataya Khusakul, Director-General of the Department of American and South Pacific Affairs, chaired an interactive discussion between bipartisan U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation from both the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, and senior executives from Banpu Public Company Limited, PTT Public Company Limited, and Charoen Pokphand Group, which are prominent Thai companies and key investors in the U.S., together with senior executives of American Chamber of Commerce in Thailand (AMCHAM) at the Ministry during the delegation’s visit to Thailand from 15 - 24 August 2025 at the invitation of the Ministry by the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington D.C., to promote understanding and strengthen multi-faceted Thailand - U.S. cooperation.
The delegation received a briefing and overview of the U.S. private sector’s business operations and investment in Thailand, which has long been a key base for the U.S. private sector in conducting business in the region and provided significant mutual benefits for both countries. They were also briefed on the overview of the operation and investment by Thai businesses in the U.S., particularly in the energy and food processing sectors. Currently, investment by the Thai private sector in the U.S. has reached almost 17 billion U.S. dollars across over 20 States. Both sides also exchanged views on the latest developments of the Thai - U.S. trade negotiations, the impacts of the U.S.’ reciprocal tariffs, economic opportunities and potential for growth of Thai businesses in the U.S., the Thai Government’s measures to promote and attract foreign investment, as well as cooperation in key areas such as education, capacity-building, and cybersecurity.
Both sides emphasized the importance of long-standing and mutually-beneficial economic partnership between Thailand and the U.S. The Thai side also expressed its readiness to work closely with the U.S. to further strengthen economic cooperation in the areas of mutual interest for the benefit of both countries.
