On September 7, 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkaew, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met over working lunch with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur.
Both sides followed up on the outcomes of the official visit of the Thai Prime Minister to Malaysia on 9-10 July 2026, and agreed to enhance cooperation in border security, development of Thai-Malaysian border areas, and transportation connectivity to improve the livelihoods and well-being of the peoples through existing bilateral mechanisms.
In addition, both sides discussed the peace dialogue process in the southern border provinces of Thailand, with Malaysia as facilitator. They also underlined the importance of creating an environment that supports progress and development.
To ensure the continued advancement of bilateral cooperation, Thailand will host the 16th Joint Commission (JC) and the 7th Joint Development Strategy for Border Areas (JDS) towards the end of October 2026, to be co-chaired by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries.
