The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand reaffirmed the commitment to finalising the Roadmap and elevating relations to a strategic level, exchanged views on the role of ASEAN in the region and discussed regional situations, in a conference call with the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.

On 22 April 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, held a video conference call with H.E. Mr. Jean-Yves Le Drian, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France, at the latter’s request.

Both sides noted with appreciation the 336-year relations between the two countries as well as the successful outcome of the bilateral meeting between H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of Thailand, and President Emmanuel Macron of France during the former’s visit to France in 2018. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to completing the Roadmap for Thai-French Relations, which covers wide-ranging areas of mutual interest from political and economic cooperation to partnership for development with an aim to elevate the relations to a strategic partnership by 2023. Both sides noted the importance that France has attached to the Indo-Pacific region as well as Thailand as home to the second largest French community in the region. In addition, both sides exchanged views on the role of ASEAN in the region, including the situation in Myanmar.
