The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs highlighted partnership between Thailand and the Republic of Korea on 3 areas: Partnership for Health, Partnership for Future Industries, and Partnership for Green Economy, during a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Chung Eui-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea.
On 5 April 2021 at 14.00 – 15.00 hrs. (Thailand’s local time), H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, had a telephone conversation with H.E. Mr. Chong Eui-yong, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea (ROK).
The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand expressed support to the New Southern Policy Plus (NSPP) of the ROK in view of its complementarity with Thailand’s national development strategy and proposed to strengthen the partnership between Thailand and the ROK in the post COVID-19 period in three areas. These are (1) Partnership for Health, in which Thailand is ready to participate in the First ROK-Thailand Foreign and Health Ministers’ Dialogue on Health Security (2+2) as proposed by the ROK side, while the Korean side supported the negotiation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on health cooperation between Thailand and the ROK; (2) Partnership for Future Industries such as Industry 4.0, science, technology and innovation (STI), under which Thailand welcomes investment on these areas from the ROK in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC); and (3) Partnership for Green Economy through synergising the ROK’s Green New Deal and Thailand’s Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) Economy model.
Both sides also exchanged views on sub-regional and regional cooperation between Thailand and the ROK such as Mekong-ROK Cooperation, Ayeyawady – Chao Phraya – Mekong Economic Cooperation Strategy (ACMECS) and ASEAN-ROK, as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest, including the situation in the Korean Peninsula and Myanmar.
