During 29-30 June 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, attended the inauguration ceremony of H.E. Mr. Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., the President of the Republic of the Philippines at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Manila, as the representative of the Royal Thai Government, upon the invitation of the Government of the Philippines.

The inauguration ceremony was well attended by high-level representatives from ASEAN member countries and important friends of the Philippines, namely, the Governor-General of Australia, Vice President of the People’s Republic of China, Vice President of Vietnam, Ministerial and Vice Ministerial representatives from Japan, Brunei, Singapore, Laos PDR, Indonesia and Cambodia, as well as the Second Gentlemen of the United States of America.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also paid a courtsey call on President Marcos Jr. at the Presidential Palace. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhance bilateral relations in all aspects, particularly on the agricultural industry, trade, increased interaction among the private sector as well as partnership within ASEAN framework, so that both sides could address the impacts from the recent regional and international situations as well as global disruptions more efficiently.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also visited the Royal Thai Embassy in Manila and chaired the Team Thailand Meeting in the Philippines which comprised representatives from Thai public and private sector working in the Philippines, to discuss future prospects and cooperation between the two countries under the new Philippine administration.

President Marcos Jr. has accepted Thailand’s invitation to join the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week, which Thailand will host in November 2022. Thailand plans to co-chair the 6th Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation (JCBC) with the Philippines in Bangkok in early 2023 to further strategise and strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries in all aspects, as well as plan activities ahead for their 75th Anniversary of their Diplomatic Relations in the year 2024.
