On 2 July 2026, Mr. Chettaphan Maksamphan, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, had discussions with Ms. Lin Yang, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).

Both sides discussed regional energy cooperation. The ESCAP Deputy Executive Secretary informed about ESCAP’s work in the energy sector, including the Energy Transition for Green Growth and Prosperity (ETGGP) initiative, a pilot programme currently being implemented in Thailand and Indonesia. The initiative promotes energy transition through an integrated approach that brings together the energy, finance, and human capital sectors, thereby supporting green economic growth and sustainable development. The Deputy Permanent Secretary reaffirmed Thailand’s readiness to work closely with ESCAP and its member States in advancing these efforts.

ESCAP promotes socio-economic development across Asia and the Pacific while strengthening the capacities of its member States. In the energy sector, ESCAP supports member States in advancing Sustainable Development Goal 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) through policy development, progress monitoring, and regional cooperation. Its key mechanisms include the Committee on Energy, the Asia-Pacific Energy Forum (APEF), and the publication of the Regional Trends Report on Energy for Sustainable Development.
