Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister highlighted dialogue and win-win cooperation at the 12th East Asia Summit Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Phnom Penh

On 5 August 2022, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, participated in the 12th East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Phnom Penh.The Meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Prak Sokhonn, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia. The Foreign Ministers or representatives of other EAS Participating Countries as well as the Secretary-General of ASEAN also attended the Meeting.

The Meeting reviewed the progress on the implementation of the Manila Plan of Action to Advance the Phnom Penh Declaration on the EAS Development Initiative 2018-2022 over the past year and discussed areas of cooperation under the new EAS Plan of Action 2023-2027. The Meeting discussed ways to strengthen the EAS as a Leaders-led forum for dialogue on broad strategic issues of common interest and concern with the aim of promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.

Thailand stressed that ASEAN-led mechanisms, including the EAS, could provide platforms for consultation and dialogue among key players with a view to enhancing win-win cooperation towards durable peace and shared prosperity in the region. Thailand also highlighted the importance of joint efforts in enhancing cooperation to overcome common challenges, which no country can tackle alone and reiterated Thailand's commitment to playing a constructive role in promoting sustainable development and green growth.

The Meeting also had an extensive and frank exchange of views on regional and international issues, including the regional architecture, the situations in Myanmar, the South China Sea, the Taiwan Strait, the Korean Peninsula, and Ukraine.
