On 28 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the Extended Informal Consultation (EIC) on the Implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC), which was held back-to-back with the ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Retreat in Cebu, Philippines.
The consultation was held under the leadership of the Philippines’ Foreign Minister, in the capacity of ASEAN Chair in 2026, following the Informal Consultation among the current (Philippines), previous (Malaysia), and incoming (Singapore) Chairs of ASEAN, to review the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus (5PC) and discuss ways forward on addressing the situation in Myanmar.
Thailand exchanged views on key issues, including the elections in Myanmar, the formulation of strategies to advance the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus, and ways to enhance the effectiveness and continuity of the Special Envoy mechanism.
The Extended Informal Consultation (EIC) is a platform for ASEAN Member States to exchange their views on the situation in Myanmar, an opportunity for an open and constructive consultation and a reiteration of ASEAN’s unity.
