On 27 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, hosted a working lunch for H.E. Mr. Kairat Sarybay, Secretary-General of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), during his visit to Thailand to attend the 13th Asia - Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD). Also in attendance was H.E. Mr. Elchin Ragub oglu Bashirov, Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Thailand.

The CICA Secretary-General commended Thailand’s active role in CICA, particularly in sustainable development as the coordinator and in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) development as one of the co-coordinators. Both sides discussed ways to enhance the profile of CICA on the global stage and strengthen its engagement with other regional frameworks for the benefit of CICA Member States, such as ESCAP, ASEAN, BIMSTEC and the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD).

CICA is a multinational forum established in 1992 by the initiative of Kazakhstan to promote peace, security and stability in Asia. It focuses on building collaboration in five areas, namely, military-political, economic, environmental, new challenges and threats, and the human dimension. Thailand joined CICA as an official member in 2004. The Republic of Azerbaijan, as Chair of CICA for the 2024 - 2026 term, will host the 7th CICA Summit in October 2026 in Baku.
