On 27 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, had a telephone conversation with H.E. Ms. Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Philippines, in her capacity as ASEAN Chair.

The Foreign Minister briefed the Foreign Secretary on the outcomes of the Foreign Ministers’ Retreat with H.E. U Than Swe, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, on 18 February 2026 in Phuket, during which they exchanged views on Thailand’s proposal on “calibrated re-engagement” between ASEAN and Myanmar, as well as ASEAN’s role in supporting the advancement of a peace process and national reconciliation in Myanmar, with Thailand helping as a bridge between ASEAN and Myanmar.

The Foreign Minister also shared the latest developments on the Thailand - Cambodia border situation and reiterated Thailand’s firm commitment to upholding the ceasefire. He conveyed his appreciation to the Philippines for taking the leading role in the ASEAN Observer Team (AOT). In addition, both sides welcomed the strong bilateral relations between Thailand and the Philippines and will continue to coordinate closely on bilateral and regional issues.
