On 4 December 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Ms. Carolyne-Mélanie Régimbal, Chief of Service of the United Nations Office of Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) on the sidelines of the 22nd Meeting of the States Parties of the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (Ottawa Convention) in Geneva.

The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to supporting the work of UNODA, including under the Ottawa Convention, and expressed appreciation for the close cooperation between both sides. He also clarified the facts concerning the Thailand – Cambodia border situation, emphasizing that the Thai side has scientific, forensic, and empirical evidence regarding Cambodia’s repeated violations of its obligations under the Convention, which have permanently disabled seven Thai soldiers. The Foreign Minister underscored that these incidents not only constitute breaches upon Thailand’s sovereignty and territorial integrity but also reflect Cambodia’s total disregard for its obligations under the Convention, to which Cambodia is a State Party, directly undermining the very integrity of the Convention.

The Foreign Minister further emphasized that Thailand’s goal is to bring Cambodia back into full compliance with the Convention to prevent further losses for the people of both sides. The Thai side hopes that UNODA will help in highlighting the seriousness of this landmine situation, as resolving this issue is essential to the credibility of the work of UNODA and the Convention.
