H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, is scheduled to attend the Meeting of the OECD Council at Ministerial Level (MCM) from 3 - 4 June 2025 in Paris, France, upon the invitation of H.E. Mr. Mathias Cormann, Secretary-General of the OECD, and H.E. Mr. Rodrigo Chaves Robles, President of Costa Rica, in his capacity as Chair of this year’s Meeting.
Thailand’s participation at this meeting will be the first time Thailand attends as OECD Accession Country. The Meeting will be held under the theme “Leading the way towards resilient, inclusive and sustainable prosperity through rules-based trade, investment and innovation.” Discussions will focus on international trade policy, inclusive and sustainable development, digital economy development, governance policies, and the cooperation of OECD with countries in all regions.
The Foreign Minister will join discussions on international economic policies, in particular sustainable and inclusive growth, international trade, investment promotion, and the governance of artificial intelligence (AI). He will be a lead speaker at the discussion on international cooperation on digital economy development. He will also take this opportunity to strengthen collaboration with OECD member countries in support of Thailand’s accession process to the OECD.
Thailand's accession to the OECD has been progressing steadily. Most recently, the OECD Secretary-General visited Thailand as a guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs during 1 - 3 May 2025, which was his second visit in 7 months, to attend the OECD Southeast Asia Regional Forum, which Thailand co-hosted, as well as to meet with high-level Thai representatives. The OECD Secretary-General welcomed the progress in Thailand’s accession process and the country’s active contribution to the OECD’s outreach to Southeast Asia.
