On 22 July 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a bilateral meeting with H.E. Mr. Markus Reubi, State Secretary, Federal Council for the 2030 Agenda of Switzerland during the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development 2025 (HLPF) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Both sides agreed to enhance collaboration to drive forward sustainable development and support a green transition. Key areas of mutual interest include building the capacity of the Thai private sector, expanding cooperation under the Paris Agreement framework, and advancing joint efforts on environmental and sustainable development initiatives within ASEAN such as tackling air pollution and promoting safe cross-border e-payment systems to boost regional economic competitiveness. The Foreign Minister also underscored the importance Thailand places on promoting human security, economic security, and social security as essential foundations for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring that no one is left behind.

The Swiss side commended Thailand for its leadership in promoting sustainable development in ASEAN and congratulated Thailand on its third Voluntary National Review (VNR) presentation this year. Switzerland praised Thailand’s balanced and objective reporting approach, which highlighted both achievements and ongoing challenges, as well as Thailand’s efforts to localize the SDGs - an area in which Switzerland looks forward to deepening cooperation in the future.
