On 22 July 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, delivered Thailand's national statement at the Open Debate of the Security Council on Promoting International Peace and Security through Multilateralism and Peaceful Settlement of Disputes. The Debate was convened by Pakistan as the President of the Security Council for July 2025.
In his statement, the Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s unwavering commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes as a foundation for international peace and security. He highlighted three key points: (1) The principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter which outline a broad spectrum of peaceful means for dispute resolution, emphasizing that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to disputes; (2) The role of the United Nations in promoting peace and non-violence, advocating for strengthening the organization’s capacity-building efforts for conflict prevention; and (3) The collaboration between the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), which has been recognized for its significant contribution to regional peace and stability, owing to its consensus-based approach as well as its advocacy for confidence-building measures, and preventive diplomacy.
