On 30 June 2026, Mr. Phuchphop Mongkolnavin, Deputy Director-General of the Department of International Organizations, delivered congratulatory remarks at the official launch of the Common Administrative Platform (CAP) and the expansion of the Bangkok Service Hub (BSH) at the premises of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). Ms. Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, Executive Secretary of ESCAP, Ms. Michaela Friberg-Storey, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Thailand, and Ms. Giovanna Ceglie, Director of the Division for Special Activities, Department of Operational Support, also delivered remarks.
The Deputy Director-General welcomed the selection of Bangkok and New York as the pioneer duty stations for the launch of the CAP in 2026, describing it as a significant milestone in Thailand’s partnership with the United Nations as a host country, particularly as Thailand commemorates the 80th anniversary of its membership in the United Nations. The Royal Thai Government remains committed to supporting the platform and the service hub as key mechanisms for driving innovation and enhancing the efficiency, transparency, and modernization of UN operations. The establishment of the CAP also underscores Bangkok’s strategic importance as an operational hub for the United Nations in the Asia-Pacific region.
The CAP was established under the UN80 Initiative to enhance efficiency, reduce duplication, modernize operations, and improve administrative support services. Under this mechanism, general administrative services, including human resources, finance, procurement, travel, and general administration, will be delivered through the CAP, with ESCAP overseeing the provision of support services to United Nations Secretariat entities based in Bangkok.
