On 22 May 2025, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, discussed with Mr. Mohammed Khaled Khiari, United Nations Assistant Secretary-General for the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific on the occasion of the latter’s visit to Thailand and the region.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation between Thailand and the United Nations (UN) and ASEAN and the UN in light of increasing challenges posed by the evolving international political landscape.

The Thai side reiterated the role of ASEAN in promoting regional stability based on its confidence building measures, and its determination to advance the partnerships - both between Thailand and the UN and ASEAN and the UN - in fostering peace, security and sustainable development, and in combating transnational crime in the region. They also exchanged views on the UN80 Initiative proposed by the United Nations Secretary-General, in the context of the 80th anniversary of the UN in 2025 and the situation in Myanmar.
