On 20 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Theerakun Niyom, Chairman of the Advisory board to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired a meeting with relevant agencies in Tak province at the Mae Sot District Office. Also present were Mr. Suwanit Suriyakul Na Ayutthaya, Deputy Governor of Tak Province, Deputy Governor of Tak Province; H.E. Mr. Jukr Boon-Long, Political Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Pol. Col. Marut Kanjanakhunthakul, Deputy Commander of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Division; representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon; as well as provincial administrative, security, labour, and social welfare agencies.

The meeting assessed the situation regarding illegal overseas employment, the rising risks of Thai nationals being lured into human trafficking schemes in Myanmar, and reviewed operational guidelines in four key areas: prevention, assistance, prosecution, and victim protection. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs received on-the-ground updates, operational challenges, and recommendations from local agencies, particularly in light of emerging transnational online scam operations, which have significantly heightened the risks of labour exploitation and human trafficking.

On the same day, the delegation also held discussions with the volunteers from Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to strengthen understanding and share knowledge on preventing and assisting individuals at risk of being lured into illegal employment abroad. As community-based networks with direct access to locals, the volunteers play a crucial role in disseminating accurate information and raising public awareness, as prevention remains central to long-term solutions.

Both meetings are part of the Public Awareness Programme on Preventing Illegal Overseas Employment and Risks of Human Trafficking. The programme aims to enhance inter-agency cooperation, strengthen local-central networks, and advance proactive measures to prevent the exploitation of Thai citizens, while also supporting the effectiveness of local agencies’ operations.

In addition, the Ministry provided information on the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in addressing human trafficking issues across multiple dimensions, such as organizing awareness-raising programs for people in high-risk and targeted areas. At the international level, Thailand’s representatives participated in the Meeting on Cooperation in Combating Telecommunication and Online Fraud among six countries (China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam). Next month, Thailand will also host the International Conference on Global Partnership against Online Scams from 17–18 December 2025.
