Minister of Foreign Affairs chairs a special meeting with Thai Ambassadors and Consuls - General on Thailand – Cambodia Border Situation

On 7 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, chaired a hybrid meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Thai ambassadors and Consuls-General from more than 70 countries around the world to discuss the current Thailand and Cambodia border situation.

The meeting was convened following the Extraordinary General Border Committee (GBC) Meeting between Thailand and Cambodia, with the objective to provide further policy direction to ensure a shared understanding and a coherent and integrated approach in the subsequent actions of the Ministry and overseas missions.

The Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation to the Ambassadors and Consuls-General for their proactive efforts in clarifying the facts to host countries and various multilateral fora. He also issued additional policy guidance to instruct Thai Ambassadors and Consuls-General to continue promoting understanding regarding Thailand’s position, which is based on the principle of resolving the issue through peaceful dialogue with Cambodia. The policy direction reflects the Thai Government’s commitment to resolving border issues with Cambodia through existing bilateral mechanisms with sincerity and good faith.

Subsequently, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, led discussions on strategic directions for the Ministry and overseas missions to effectively and cohesively implement the Minister’s policy directives. Emphasis was placed on strategic communications, engagement in multilateral frameworks, reference to international law, and the protection and the promotion of the interests of Thai nationals and Thai communities abroad.

During the meeting, Ambassadors and Consuls-General from various countries provided updates on developments within their jurisdiction. They also elaborated on their proactive actions taken to clarify and promote understanding of Thailand’s position on the current Thailand – Cambodia border situation to respective host governments, the media, and other relevant sectors.
