On 5 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held bilateral discussions with Honorable Todd McClay, Minister for Trade and Investment, Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Forestry, and Associate Minister of Foreign Affairs of New  Zealand, during his visit to Thailand from 4 to 6 August 2025.

Both sides agreed to work towards the shared goal of tripling the value of bilateral trade over the next 20 years, while recognising the important role of the Thailand - New  Zealand Closer Economic Partnership (TNZCEP), which marks its 20th anniversary this year. They also exchanged views on the impact of unilateral tariff measures and possible ways to address such impacts through bilateral cooperation, with a focus on enhancing regional value content in the supply chain. The Foreign Minister also underlined the potential for cooperation in areas where New  Zealand has special expertise, including cooperatives as well as agricultural technology transition, particularly in boosting agricultural productivity, advancing precision farming, and applying post-harvest processing technologies.

In addition, the discussion touched on cooperation in the field of education, as New  Zealand remains a popular destination for Thai students. Both sides agreed to promote certificate training programmes covering agricultural technology, public administration, and digital-era trade. They further agreed to organise business delegations to strengthen networking between the two countries. The New  Zealand side expressed readiness to welcome a Thai business delegation to explore and expand opportunities for bilateral trade and investment cooperation.
