On 27 January 2026, Ms. Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General in New York, together with Dr. Sakda Alapach, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Public Health, and senior officials from the Department of Thai Traditional and Alternative Medicine, attended the media event for the Global Wellness Summit (GWS) 2026 in New York, organized by the Global Wellness Institute (GWI).

The event presented current trends in the global wellness economy and officially announced Phuket as the host city of the Global Wellness Summit (GWS) 2026, which will take place from 10–13 November 2026. Notably, the year 2026 will also mark the 20th anniversary of the Summit. More than 200 media representatives and industry leaders in the health and wellness sector participated in the briefing.

On this occasion, Consul General Somjai, representing Thailand, delivered her remarks to invite health and wellness businesses and media partners to join the Summit in Phuket and experience the province’s unique wellness strengths - its abundant natural sanctuary for wellness, deep-rooted Thai traditional medicine and holistic healing practices, and its harmonious blend of local culture, community wisdom, innovation, and global expertise.

The Global Wellness Institute is a leading non-profit organization dedicated to research, knowledge-sharing, and international collaboration on health and wellbeing. Its annual Global Wellness Summit is held in major cities around the world as a platform for dialogue, innovation exchange, and industry networking.
