On Sunday, June 7, 2026, Miss Somjai Taphaopong, Consul General of Thailand in New York, together with Mrs. Sansanee Amatyakul Vasasmitth, Deputy Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) New York Office, and staff, participated in the "Queens Pride Parade & Multicultural Festival 2026, “held under the theme "Unstoppable Pride," the vibrant event took place in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York City.

This year marks the 34th Anniversary of the parade, organized by the NY LGBT Network, a non-profit organization dedicated to fostering a diverse LGBTQ+ community and providing a supportive network across Long Island and New York City. The organization's core mission focuses on enhancing the quality of life, promoting equality, and encouraging social inclusion for LGBTQ+ individuals.

First established in 1993 and held annually on the first Sunday of June, this historic parade stands as the second-largest Pride parade in New York City.

The borough of Queens is widely recognized as one of the most ethnically diverse areas, serving as home to a vast international population, including a vibrant Thai community. The Consul General was invited to participate to in this event as one of judges. It serves to strengthen positive relations with local communities and civil society networks in the United States, while also enhancing Thailand’s image as an open society that values diversity, equality, and human dignity.

Furthermore, this engagement aligns with the Thai government’s policy to promote equality and gender diversity an initiative that has consistently garnered international interest and recognition. It also supports the promotion of Thailand as a world-class, high quality destination characterized by diversity, safety, friendliness, and a unique cultural identity. Ultimately, this will bolster confidence and drive sustainable tourism and economic growth in the long term.
