On 18 November 2025, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Minister of Foreign Affairs, held a telephone conversation with Right Honourable Yvette Cooper, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs of the United Kingdom, to further strengthen bilateral relations following their recent appointments, as well as the 170th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Thailand and the United Kingdom.
The Foreign Minister briefed the UK Secretary of State on recent developments on the Thailand - Cambodian border situation, emphasising Thailand’s regret that Cambodia violated the Joint Declaration, including the laying of landmines by the Cambodian side, which has resulted in injuries to Thai soldiers for the seventh time. The UK Secretary of State expressed her sympathy for the injured Thai soldiers and conveyed the UK’s readiness to help support efforts to de-escalate tensions and advance peace processes between the two sides. The Foreign Minister also invited the UK Secretary of State to attend the International Conference on Global Partnership against Online Scams, to be hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in December 2025.
Both sides expressed satisfaction with the close and long-standing relations at all levels and across all areas, particularly in trade, and welcomed the elevation of such ties to an Enhanced Trade Partnership (ETP) in 2024, and the current discussion on a potential Digital Trade Agreement between the two countries, which could pave the way for a future Free Trade Agreement (FTA). They also exchanged views on the situation in Myanmar. The UK Secretary of State thanked Thailand for its humanitarian assistance to the people of Myanmar, particularly Thailand’s provision of temporary shelters for those fleeing conflict. The Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to continuing proactive diplomatic engagement with the Myanmar authorities at the bilateral level, as well as within ASEAN frameworks, particularly the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus.
