H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, will lead the Thai delegation to attend the 77th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77) and key side events during 17-25 September 2022 in New York. This upcoming UNGA session will be fully held in-person for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019.

 

On this occasion, the Thai delegation is set to pursue the following missions: (1) To reconnect Thailand with its counterparts; (2) to reaffirm Thailand’s trust in the multilateral system which is at the centre of the global development agenda and plays an important role in tackling new challenges such as digital technology, use of outer space, as well as advocating for an equitable global financial system; (3) to reshape the global agenda through participation in international dialogues and promote Thailand’s role as Chair of APEC 2022, the key deliverables of the APEC meetings, and Thailand’s role as ASEAN Coordinator on Sustainable Development Cooperation, in promoting the Bio-Circular-Green (BCG) economy model, which is in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); and (4) to revitalize the ties between the Thai public sector and the Thai communities in the United States, as well as the US private sector like the US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC).

This occasion will also see the launch of Thailand’s candidature to the Human Rights Council (HRC) for the term 2025-2027.
The visit of the Thai delegation this time takes place during the High-level Week (HLW) where Heads of States and Governments of the UN come to New York to share their visions and opinions on important global agendas through statements delivered during the General Debate under the theme “A watershed moment: transformative solutions to interlocking challenges” set by H.E. Mr. Csaba Korosi, President of the 77th Session of the UNGA (PGA77).  DPM/FM is expected to deliver Thailand’s national statement on the morning of 24 September 2022 at the UN Headquarters.

Furthermore, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwon, Deputy Prime Minister and Acting Prime Minister of Thailand will be giving a speech via a pre-recorded statement at the high-level event “Transforming Education Summit” (TES) on 19 September 2022, to express Thailand’s commitment and determination to the augmentation of learners’ skills and lifelong learning.

DPM/FM is also scheduled to attend more than 10 side events covering issues of interest of the international community. Thailand will seek to exchange knowledge and best practices in various areas, especially in public health for which Thailand holds a great track record. It should be noted that Thailand will be co-hosting 3 side events as follows:

1. “Mental Health in Schools and Education Settings: An Urgent Call to Action for World Leaders and Donors” to be held on 20 September 2022 at UNICEF House – co-hosting with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO);
2. “Group of Friends of UHC and Global Health (Investment in Health Systems for UHC)” to be held on 21 September 2022 at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations – co-hosting with Japan and the Republic of Georgia; and
3. “Regional Pathways to the Global Goals: ASEAN’s Approach towards SDGs Implementation and Sustainable post Covid-19 Recovery” to be held on 23 September 2022 at the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations – co-hosting with the ASEAN Centre for Sustainable Development Studies and Dialogue (ACSDSD).

Additionally, a number of high-level bilateral meetings will be held, including between Thailand and the People's Republic of China, the United Arab Emirates and the Chief Executive of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. António Guterres, Secretary-General of the UN.
