On 24 September 2025, Ms. Rujikorn Saengchantr, Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, attended the Forty-Ninth Annual Meeting of the Ministers for Foreign Affairs of the Group of 77, held during the UNGA80 High-level Week at the UNHQ in New York

The said meeting was convened by Iraq as Chair of the Group and held under the theme “Strengthening multilateralism for sustainable development: advancing the priorities of the Global South in the context of the 80th anniversary of the United Nations.” Member States underscored the importance of financing for development and the Sevilla Commitment, international financial architecture reform, the UN80 Initiative, multilateralism, South-South cooperation, and climate change. The meeting also adopted the 2025 Ministerial Declaration.

The Director-General delivered a statement highlighting Thailand’s commitment to combating illicit financial flows and transnational organized crime, supporting the UN80 Initiative, expressing its readiness to support the relocation of some UN offices to Thailand, and seeking the Group’s support for Thailand’s proposal to establish the Advisory Centre on International Dispute Resolution in Bangkok.

The Group of 77 is the largest negotiating bloc of developing countries at the United Nations, comprising 134 member states. It plays a crucial role in advancing common positions and safeguarding the interests of the Global South. Thailand is one of the founding members of the Group and served as Chair of the G77 in 2016.
