On 23 January 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the dedication ceremony of the new U.S. Consulate General compound in Chiang Mai and held discussions with H.E. Mr. Michael Rigas, U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources.

Both sides reaffirmed the close and longstanding relationship between Thailand and the U.S., built on decades of partnership, and expressed confidence that cooperation between both countries will continue to advance in support of their respective official responsibilities. They underscored the important role of the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai in promoting cooperation in key areas, including education, culture, public health, environmental protection, narcotics suppression, transnational crime, and people-to-people exchanges, which form a vital foundation for strengthening mutual understanding and trust between both countries.

In addition, both sides discussed anti-online scams efforts, an issue which the Royal Thai Government has declared a national agenda and the U.S. also prioritizes. Both sides further exchanged views on possible cooperation following the International Conference on the Global Partnership against Online Scams held in Bangkok in December 2025.
