Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs meets with European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food on the occasion of the visit of the EU agrifood business delegation to Thailand

On 28 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, had discussions with Mr. Christophe Hansen, European Commissioner for Agriculture and Food, in Bangkok.

Both sides underscored the importance of strengthening Thailand - European Union (EU) cooperation in agriculture and food, based on a trusted partnership and a shared commitment to a rules-based international order, amid ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and the global energy crisis. They also exchanged views on a range of bilateral cooperation areas, including food technology, precision farming, market access for EU livestock products, the promotion of geographical indications (GI), sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), collaboration under the EU’s Global Gateway initiative, and food supply chain resilience.

Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to concluding the Thailand - EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) negotiations within 2026 and discussed ways to ensure that the Agreement would deliver tangible and mutually beneficial outcomes for businesses, farmers, and consumers.

In addition, the Vice Minister delivered remarks at the working dinner with a delegation of agrifood business representatives from European Union (EU) Member States visiting Thailand.
