Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs participates in the Forum “Between Empires: Middle Powers, Industry and the Future World Order” and meets with UNODC in Munich

On 14 February 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, delivered a keynote address and participated in a panel discussion at the political and economic forum entitled “Between Empires: Middle Powers, Industry and the Future World Order,” organized by Asia Bridge in Munich as a side event of the Munich Security Conference 2026.

In his remarks, the Vice Minister addressed the evolving global landscape marked by intensifying geopolitical competition and the fragmentation of international trade and technology systems. He underscored that such developments have elevated the role of middle powers in upholding the international order. He reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to maintaining strategic autonomy while supporting a rules-based international order. Thailand stands ready to promote regional cooperation and views international cooperation as an important factor in strengthening stability. The Vice Minister also highlighted Thailand’s foreign policy strategy of maintaining balanced relations with major powers based on national interests and principles. He expressed confidence that the elected government will remain stable and business-friendly, and noted the continued progress in the Thailand - EU Free Trade Agreement negotiations.

On the same day, the Vice Minister held a bilateral meeting with Mr. John Brandolino, Acting Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and Acting Director-General of the United Nations Office at Vienna. Both sides exchanged views on efforts to combat online scams and cybercrime. The UNODC side underscored that Thailand is a close partner and invited Thailand to participate in the Global Fraud Summit to be co-organized by UNODC and INTERPOL this March. The Thai side informed UNODC of the upcoming EU - Thailand for ASEAN Regional Seminar on Scam Fighting, to be co-organized with ESIWA+ in April, and the OSCE Asian Conference: “Countering Transnational Threats in the Digital Era through Enhanced Cooperation in Asia and the OSCE Region,” to be co-hosted with Finland in May. In this regard, Thailand also invited UNODC to serve as a co-organizer of these meetings.
