Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs meets with Türkiye - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group and Working Group for Azerbaijan - Thailand Inter-parliamentary Relations

On 24 April 2024, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, had a meeting with members of Türkiye - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group, with Mr. Emre Çalışkan as the President of the Group, and members of the Working Group for Azerbaijan - Thailand Inter-parliamentary Relations, with Mr. Rufat Guliyev as the Head of the Working Group, during visit to Thailand to participate in the Royal Thai Embassy in Ankara's project to promote parliamentary cooperation between Thailand - Türkiye and Thailand - Azerbaijan during 21-27 April 2024.

Vice Minister emphasized the Royal Thai Government's vision on implementing sustainable and proactive economic policies to open up new markets, accelerate FTA negotiations, and improve visa facilitation. He also introduced the “IGNITE THAILAND” vision, announced by the Prime Minister to elevate Thailand into a global industrial hub in 8 sectors and welcomed investments from Türkiye and Azerbaijan in Thailand in potential sectors such as logistics, future automotive, medicine and digital economy. Moreover, the meeting discussed regional and international issues as well as cooperation within the international organisations such as the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Earlier, on 22 April 2024 Ms. Busadee Santipitaks, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, also hosted a welcome dinner in honour of the Türkiye - Thailand Parliamentary Friendship Group and Working Group for Azerbaijan - Thailand Inter-parliamentary Relations.

Relations between Thailand - Türkiye and Thailand - Azerbaijan have been cordial since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1958 and 1992 respectively. The parliamentary system in Türkiye and Azerbaijan have also long been important to and played a significant role in the politics and foreign affairs, including the development of relations and cooperation with Thailand in many areas.
