On 27 April 2013, the Thai New Year or “Songkran” Festival was held at the Thai Residence in Mexico. The event was attended by about 100 invitees including the Thai community in Mexico, Thai exchange students, Mexican Friends of Thailand and ASEAN diplomats. Participants were encouraged to bring their family along in order to highlight the family aspect of the Songkran Day.

During the event, Ambassador Chirachai Punkrasin and his wife presided over the water-pouring ceremony or “Rod Nam Dam Hua” where Thais and Mexicans alike paid respect to Ambassador and his wife with scented water and in return received a blessing. In his remarks,  Ambassador Chirachai explained the meaning of the Songkran Festival and gave his well wishes to all the attendees.

After the ceremony, a Thai buffet lunch commenced, followed by the traditional water fight and other Thai traditional games which were enjoyed by young and old, making the event an enjoyable and memorable one, filled with water and smiles.
