On 13-14 May 2013, Embassies of ASEAN Member States in Moscow and the ASEAN Center at Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) organized the first ASEAN-Russia Youth Summit at MGIMO (on 13 May 2013) and RIA Novosti Media Holding (on 14 May 2014).

The event was organized in the format of panelist discussion for ASEAN students in Russia and Russian Students majoring area studies on Southeast Asian countries to exchange views and experiences on cultural and educational exchanges as well as ways forward for the ASEAN-Russia relations.

Eminent persons and experts of Russia and from ASEAN Member States have been invited to discuss possible initiatives to further strengthen business ties between ASEAN and Russia and the role of media in enhancing understanding of both sides. The invited participants included Ambassadors of ASEAN Members States, H.E. Mr. Alexander Ivanov, Ambassador Attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, I Gede Ngurah Swajaya, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Indonesia to the ASEAN Secretariat, Mr. Kavi Chongkittavorn from Nation Media Group, professors, students, and other distinguished guests totaling around 150.
