On 21 July 2013, Dr. Chaiyong Satjipanon, Ambassador of Thailand to the United States of America, presided over the opening of the “Thai Village in Silver Spring 2013” together with Mr. Isiah “Ike” Leggett, Montgomery Chief County’s Executive, Mr. Charles Abelmann, and representative from Wat Thai Washington DC. The Thai Village 2013, co-hosted by the Royal Thai Embassy and Wat Thai Washington DC, is especially important as it is part of the celebration of the 180th Anniversary of the Thai-U.S. diplomatic relations. To jointly celebrate this auspicious occasion, the Royal Thai Embassy and its Team Thailand, the Office of Tourism Authority of Thailand in New York as well as Wat Thai Washington DC and various parts of Thai communities prepared several shows and activities to promote Thailand and Thai culture including various kinds of authentic Thai food, classical Thai dances, traditional and modern Thai music, Muay Thai and Thai traditional massage, as well as prize draws and fun games and activities for kids.
In addition to that, the Royal Thai Embassy also organized an exhibition to mark the long-standing relationship between Thailand and the United States as well as the “King Rama IX: The Great Scientist” exhibition to demonstrate His Majesty King BhumibolAdulyadej’s scientific works and philosophies that have played an important part in the development of Thailand and a better standard of living of Thai people.
The Thai Village this yearis also honored by the presence of a Thai delegation led by M.R. SukhumbhanParibatra, Governor of Bangkok, which have brought with it an exhibition about a wonderful city of Bangkok as well as a series of original Thai classical dances from the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration, including the famous shows of Muay Thai, “Serng Pong Lang”, “Pee Ta Khon”, and “Li Kei”.The Thai Village 2013 was participated by more than four thousand people.
